Overview: An established non-profit, private Montessori school in Rochester, New York is seeking a passionate leader who will enhance the educational experience for the MSR community including students, faculty and families, be a source of support and leadership for experienced classroom guides, build a strong community generally, and effectively perform administrative and financial functions.
Position description: Head of School (HoS) responsibilities include –
Supporting classroom guides in the development and implementation of Montessori curriculum and assisting them in achieving the educational mission of the school.
Taking a leadership role in building a strong Montessori community of faculty, staff, and families by establishing and maintaining positive relationships and open communication.
Coordinating afternoon and summer programs outside of the Montessori curriculum.
Meeting regularly with faculty/staff and the Board of Trustees.
Leading and managing school operations, including preparing and adhering to an annual budget.
Oversees all fundraising and ensures the financial well-being of the school.
Ensuring compliance with state and federal education regulations and pursuing Montessori accreditation.
Responding promptly and professionally to concerns, including offering constructive solutions to address issues.
Managing personnel including hiring, revising contracts, evaluating performance, coordinating roles and job descriptions.
Planning and implementing professional development including staff development days, montessori training programs and required safety and OCFS trainings.
Managing school-wide projects and programs, including celebrations and shared spaces (garden and related programming).
Managing the relationship with the Brighton School District, including buildings and grounds, facility management and nursing services.

Requirements and Qualifications:
Masters in education or a related field strongly preferred; BA required.
Minimum 5 years of experience in early childhood education required, with a preference for a school leadership philosophy in line with the principles of education represented by Association Montessori International (AMI).
Previous experience with school leadership, classroom teaching, school operations, and community building are required.
Candidates are expected to work collaboratively as part of a diverse team and possess a deep knowledge and understanding of child development.
