Cascades Academy seeks a highly motivated professional to serve as the school’s Director of Counseling for the 2019-20 school year.
Cascades Academy is an independent PK-12 day school with 200 students located in the beautiful mountain town of Bend, Oregon. The school was founded in 2003 and resides on an award-winning 21-acre campus located on the Deschutes River. The school’s unique mission weaves challenging academics with experiential learning and actively cultivates a nurturing and inclusive school community.
Specific responsibilities include:
Implement a comprehensive school counseling program in alignment with the vision and mission of Cascades Academy. This program will provide developmentally appropriate personal, social, and emotional counseling services for all students, either individually or in groups, in grades PK-12.
Provide a safe, confidential counseling environment conducive to students sharing their needs and concerns while referring those with more intensive counseling needs to the appropriate mental health care professional.
Consult and collaborate effectively with all stakeholders; faculty, parents, administration, and community health professional regarding a student’s social and emotional growth and success.
Oversee the development and sustainability of an effective Advisory Program for grades 6-12.
Oversee the development of the PK-12 Health and Wellness curriculum. Provide direct instruction when possible for MS and HS advisory and health classes.
Participate in the weekly grade level meetings providing support for student and teachers around specific student needs/concerns.
Provide families with referral sources for community mental health providers and act as the liaison between that provider and the school so that effective action can be taken on behalf of the student.
Provide or facilitate professional development for faculty and parents in key areas of social, emotional, and behavioral development.
Assist Crisis Response Team members during critical incidents.
Serve as a member of the admission committee, including screening prospective students for admission.
?Maintain confidentiality regarding student and family issues
Demonstrate a commitment to personal growth and development through self-analysis, participation in professional development activities, exploring educational research, participating in professional organizations, and through formal renewal programs.
Represent Cascades Academy with students, parents, staff and the broader school community in a professional manner.
Attend monthly faculty meetings and participate in school-wide in-service days
Assist with lunch, recess, and other duties as assigned
