Stone Ridge is seeking a Middle School Librarian and Upper School Library Assistant to begin August 13, 2019.
Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart, a member of the international Network of Sacred Heart Schools, is a Catholic, independent college preparatory school for girls, Grades 1-12, with a co-educational Early Childhood Program, Pre-Kindergarten, and Kindergarten in Bethesda, Maryland. This position is split 50% in the Middle School as Librarian and 50% in the Upper School as Library Assistant. The Middle School Librarian is responsible for serving students and faculty in alignment with the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart Education. S/he collaborates with Middle School faculty to develop literacy and research skills, providing occasional training as needed. S/he maintains an inviting and intellectually stimulating library atmosphere. Developing and maintaining the Middle School collection, including print, audio-visual, and on-line material, s/he supports school curriculum and programs, as well as the individual literary and intellectual interests of students. S/he coordinates library systems, programs, and activities with the other school librarians. S/he updates and maintains the library’s online catalogue and intranet pages to enhance the library’s goals in an accessible and creative manner.
The Upper School Library Assistant works closely with the Upper School Librarian in shaping the climate of the Upper School Library. S/he is responsible for maintaining a climate that facilitates learning and study, attending to student behavior and the physical space, assisting the Upper School Librarian in reshelving and cataloguing resources, and other duties that arise. The Upper School Library Assistant works on school days (Monday-Friday, with the exception of holidays) from 10:30 am to 6:00 pm.

The ideal candidate has a BA and experience working with middle and high school aged students; a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science is preferred. S/he demonstrates patience, excellent research skills, creativity, and the ability to develop library and information literacy curricula. Experience in designing and maintaining websites and using other appropriate information technologies is desired.
