GCS, a non-sectarian preschool in Brooklyn Heights, has an opening for full-time Associate Teachers in our Twos, Threes and PreKindergarten programs for the 2019-2020 school year. Grace Church School has approximately 160 children from toddlers to five-year-olds. We are a learning community that adheres to a developmental approach and our classrooms provide a variety of sensory, hands-on, child-centered activities.
The foundation of our practice begins with the philosophy that children are more apt to ask questions and approach challenges in a classroom where they feel safe and nurtured. The teachers at GCS are deeply committed to ensuring that every child feels respected and valued, with the understanding that a child’s first school experience can set the stage for a love of learning that continues beyond preschool.
Encouraging parent participation and building a bridge between home and school is essential to our program’s goals. Supporting strong teacher-parent relationships enhances and extends our understanding of the children in our program.
Mentored by a Head Teacher, Associate Teachers participate in all aspects of classroom life. This is an ideal position for a graduate student, recent graduate or career-changer.
Applicants for Associate Teachers are required to have a BA/BS preferably in Early Childhood Education or related field. Graduate students or applicants with a graduate degree in ECE are preferred. New graduate students are welcome to apply.
Experience with preschoolers and their parents/caregivers is necessary as is the desire to continue to learn about the developmental needs of young children. Warmth, patience and a sense of humor are essential.
Additional Salary Information: GCS offers a generous benefits package. The school covers 100% of Health Insurance for the employee and offers a Flexible Spending Plan. In the second year of employment, GCS contributes to a 403b retirement savings plan. Early Childhood Education graduate tuition is reimbursed at the CUNY rate beginning the 2nd year of employment.
