Fredericksburg Academy, the leading independent school in the region, is seeking a full-time Director of Development for the 2019-20 school year. As a member of the Advancement Team, the Director of Development will lead the Academy’s fundraising initiatives (Annual Fund, SOAR Capital Campaign, and Celebrate FA!) as outlined in the school’s strategic and strategic financial plans. The Director will work closely with the Head of School, the Board of Trustees, and the Advancement Team to provide leadership for the development program as it works to build a strong culture of philanthropy throughout the school and global community. Successful candidates must be able to communicate an effective case for giving in written and oral communication, be comfortable soliciting prospects for gifts, and understand the culture of independent schools and the importance of philanthropy.
Design and execute action plans designed to meet and exceed fundraising goals.
Oversee all aspects of the development program to include fundraising, gift acknowledgement, cultivating alumni support, and planning and leading special development events.
Personally solicit donations.
Cultivate a culture of giving and gratitude across all constituencies.
Enhance existing relationships while building new partnerships and programs that tap into community resources.
Maintain the database of all contributors and provide development reports as required.
Develop and nurture a highly collaborative relationship with the Head of School and the Board of Trustees, supporting them in all their fundraising responsibilities by setting up donor meetings and accompanying them when appropriate.
Coordinate the school’s volunteer efforts for events in conjunction with the Parent Faculty Association.
Manage the development budget.
Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree is preferred.
3 plus years experience in non-profit development or fundraising.
Demonstrated excellence in organizational, managerial, and communication skills (written and verbal).
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a wide range of individuals.
Strategic thinker who completes projects as assigned and on time.
Experience working with and managing volunteers.

Contract: 12-month, full time
