Oregon Episcopal School seeks a skilled, professional, and culturally competent individual to be its sixth grade humanities teacher. The Middle School humanities teacher works closely with a partner teacher to develop and implement innovative curriculum for sixth grade students that integrates history and English skills and content into a cross-disciplinary class. A successful teacher in this position has the capacity to foster in students an enthusiasm for the exploration of ideas and concepts in a student-centered classroom. This role relies on someone who collaborates effectively with fellow teachers, members of the English and History and Social Studies Departments, and the Middle School faculty as a whole. The MS humanities teacher position consists of four classes of sixth grade humanities. Other full-time faculty responsibilities include being an advisor to a small group of sixth graders and occasional supervisory and chaperoning duties. As OES is dedicated to developing our Essential Competencies in all students, we are looking for candidates skilled in project-based learning who can guide students to learn through inquiry and discovery. This position reports directly to the MS division head. In addition to the qualifications detailed below, the successful candidate will be able to support the OES educational mission.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Facilitate dynamic, engaging, and effective learning experiences for MS students.
Teach both interpretive and creative writing and reading skills to help students develop critical understandings of literature.
Manage the classroom environment so that all students can learn safely.
Evaluate and return student work promptly.
Write evaluation reports for students in a timely manner.
Collaborate positively with other faculty.
Communicate with students and parents in a clear, timely, and professional manner.
Advise a group of Middle School students and attend two overnight grade level trips
Attend MS meetings, Grade-level Team meetings, and English/History Department meetings.
Serve as a role model for Middle School students
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
BA/BS or equivalent in English, history, or related field
Three years of experience teaching English, history, or Humanities
Intercultural competence, ability to teach diverse groups of students effectively; ability to interact appropriately with a diverse array of students, coworkers, family members
IT skills: general digital literacy, intermediate to advanced MS Office Suite, database skills, web applications including Google Suite, Zoom and Skype, etc. as appropriate to job duties
Ability to pass a criminal background check and drug screen
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
MA/MS or equivalent in relevant discipline
Experience teaching English/history/Humanities to middle school aged students
Experience teaching in a team
Experience with inquiry-based teaching and Project-based learning
Experience using digital tools, and teaching in a 1:1 device environment
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Ability to develop curriculum with consideration of scope and sequence
Ability to maintain a flexible mindset and an innovative approach to teaching
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ability to collaborate and maintain collegial relations with colleagues
Knowledge of educational technology; openness to innovation, willingness to learn, ability to integrate evolving IT into curriculum
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Primarily classroom environment, ability to sit at a computer and keyboard for moderate periods
Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds on an occasional basis
Must be able to see, hear, and speak clearly to interact with groups of individuals
Ability to move about the OES campus
