Calvert School, an independent lower and middle school, is searching for a Lower School Learning Specialist for the 2019-20 school year. Calvert School is located in Tuscany-Canterbury, a residential neighborhood in Baltimore City, just north of Johns Hopkins University and south of Loyola University, accessible from Charles Street and I-83.
The Coordinator will report to the Head of Lower School and responsibilities will include the following:
Work in partnership with families and teachers to provide academic support and services to all students.
Work with students in Kindergarten (5th Age) to Fourth (10th Age) Grades to help address individual student learning differences and to assist with appropriate course placement of students.
Assist faculty in designing and implementing lesson plans and curriculum to meet the needs of students and their learning styles.
Assist with the administration of standardized testing in the Lower School and interpret test scores and communicate results with parents.
Make appropriate referrals to outside tutoring and/or academic coaching that may be needed.
Teach individual students with diagnosed learning differences on a one-on-one or small group basis.
Contribute to the Calvert community in other ways as a coach, club advisor, or by serving on committees on occasion.
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in a related field with three to five years of related experience working with lower school age students in a school setting. A Master’s degree is strongly preferred. Candidates must have excellent writing, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
