Fayetteville Academy seeks an experienced and dynamic physics and astronomy teacher to teach five sections of upper school classes beginning in the 2019-2020 school year. The ideal candidate should be an expert in the field of physics, and the craft of teaching. He/she should be fully capable of taking the lead role with respect to our upper school physics and astronomy programs, from the refinement of curriculum to management of physical spaces. Our physics courses are based upon frequent laboratory experiences and it is expected that candidates be able to design and conduct laboratory activities, teach with an engaging classroom environment, and appeal to the learning styles of a diverse and talented group of students. The successful candidate will teach any combination of Physics, Physics Honors (H), and/or Physics Advanced Placement (AP), as well as Astronomy courses in both fall and spring semesters for students in grades 11-12.
Teach five (5) sections of any combination of the following: Physics, Physics (H), and/or Physics (AP), and Astronomy
Create hands-on, inquiry-based, project-based lessons that build excitement for subject areas.
Maintain assignments and grades for students
Be available for student extra-help
Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with students, parents, colleagues, staff, and administration
Sustain an online grade book for students and parents (weekly)
Attend all required Science Department and Divisional meetings
Participate in requested professional development activities
Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor’s degree required/Advanced degree preferred in physics, or extensive coursework in physics
Minimum of 2 years of science teaching experience at the 9 – 12 level
Independent school teaching experience preferred
