Headwaters School, a Pre-K through grade 12 independent day school serving 550 students across its three campuses in Austin, TX, is seeking an experienced, dynamic, energetic, and collaborative Assistant Head for Advancement for the 2019-2020 school year.

The Assistant Head for Advancement will work closely with the Head of School and the Board of Trustees to make the case for giving to Headwaters, to build the framework for a compelling capital campaign, to lead the execution of that capital campaign, and to ensure the school has the resources to move into its next phase of growth.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Establish and execute forward-thinking development/advancement and strategic programs that grow the annual and major giving programs and upcoming capital campaigns.
Oversee all aspects of the development program, including the annual giving, major giving, the upcoming capital campaign, and any other special development events.
Identify, research, and direct the implementation of a multifaceted fundraising program to support the school’s strategic vision, cultivating a culture of giving and gratitude across all constituencies and socio-economic strata.
Collaborate with the admissions office on PR initiatives and the marketing and communications office to create/produce fund raising-related communication materials to expand and enhance the school’s visibility and reputation.
In collaboration with the Head of School, personally solicit major donors
Enhance existing relationships while building new relationships, systems, and programs that further tap into the generosity and resources of the community.
Oversee a database of all contributors and provide development reports as requested
Oversee and manage the development budget.
Supervise and nurture the development staff
Guide the school’s volunteerism efforts with the Director of Development
Nurture and maintain a highly collaborative relationship with the head of school, the board chair, and individual board members, supporting them in all their fundraising responsibilities, and accompanying them on donor visits when appropriate.

To serve on the Senior Leadership Team
To embody and advocate the school’s Purpose, Promise and PACT
Attend school events/meetings including:
Campus-wide community builders
School-wide Fundraisers including Community Picnic and Spring Fling
Other school functions as deemed necessary by the Head of School
Develop and lead staff or department meetings, as needed
Perform other duties, as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree preferred
5+ years of experience in the nonprofit sector and in fundraising
Independent school experience preferred
Evidence of success in directly soliciting and closing charitable gifts
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with all the school’s constituents, while maintaining strict confidentiality
Evidence of engaging verbal, written, and presentation skills
Passionate about working with a wide range of individuals from diverse backgrounds coupled with a strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
Outstanding knowledge of fundraising data software and database management software
Experience working with and motivating volunteers and staff members

This is a full-time, 12-month salaried, exempt position and compensation is competitive for the greater Austin area.
