The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign invites applications for the position of Visiting Teaching Associate - German at the University Laboratory High School, a 5-year public school for 325 select students. This is a full-time academic staff 9-month appointment for the 2019-2020 year. A Teaching Associate is a non-tenure-track faculty appointment at the University of Illinois. Salary is commensurate with degree and experience. This position would begin August 2019 after the successful completion of a fingerprint criminal background check for employment. The position may become permanent at a later date.

Teach all four levels of German I-German IV to academically talented 8th grade through 12th grade students. Complete a laboratory mission of disseminating curriculum and instruction, or public engagement. The position also entails school activities normally required of teachers, such as attendance at faculty meetings, department meetings, committee membership, and assistance with and support of school functions and student activities.
Bachelor's degree in German or Teaching of German
Evidence of effective and creative teaching experience
Advanced oral proficiency in German
Advanced degree in German or equivalent training in German
Native or near-native oral proficiency in German
High-school level teaching experience in the United States
Experience in developing instructional materials and innovative curriculum
Knowledge of German culture and literature
Excellent communication skills in English
Professional Educator License (PEL) in the state of Illinois, or eligible for one
Involvement in professional organizations and experience with outreach activities
