Overview: The Dean of Students is charged by the Head of School with overseeing the school’s system of discipline, the coordination of student activities, and the needs of students in accordance to the adopted policies and procedures.
Responsible to: The Caribbean School Head of School.
Evaluation: The Dean of Students’ performance will be evaluated by the Head of School in accordance with provisions on evaluation of professional personnel.
Graduate degree, in education administration preferred.
Adopts a student-centered approach to discipline. Recognizes the underlying purpose of discipline as educational rather than simply punitive. Uses disciplinary situations to help students learn from their mistakes in order to develop healthier decision-making skills.

The Dean of Students is responsible for promoting a safe and healthy school environment and managing all areas of student life, including co- and extracurricular programs, student activities and events, student leadership and community service, student counseling, athletics, and discipline. As part of the Administrative Team, the Dean of Students works closely with other administrators and faculty/staff to manage day-to-day school operations, and develop new policies, programs, systems, and procedures to support the welfare of students and the larger interests of the school.
Respond promptly to student behavioral issues and teacher concerns, using the School’s established Code of Conduct as a guide
Meet with students, teachers and/or parents to discuss individual student behavioral issues and concerns
Oversee daily student attendance and maintain formal student disciplinary records, using PlusPortals and Admin Plus
Help faculty/staff develop effective strategies for managing daily classroom behaviors
Support teachers/staff in planning grade level, divisional, and all-school programs, activities, and events
Oversee the School’s K-12 Community Service program
Oversee Clubs and Activities and process Event & Activity Requests
Work with US Student Council to promote positive Upper School student leadership and community initiatives/events
Organize Special Schedules and Detentions
Carry out formal campus safety audit. Update the school’s current Crisis/Disaster/Emergency Plan and Communications Plan to meet current industry best practices for school safety
Formally supervise the Athletic Director, Guidance Counselor, and School Nurse. Work with each to strengthen goals and standards for each department, and establish additional programs and policies
