Francis W. Parker School is a renowned JK-12th grade independent day school. Founded in 1901 on the tenets of progressive education, the school currently enrolls 944 students and employs 200 dedicated faculty and staff members who, in addition to assistant teachers, substitute teachers and coaches, work together to ensure that the School lives up to its Mission to “educate students to think and act with empathy, courage and clarity as responsible citizens and leaders in a diverse, democratic society and global community.”
We are currently seeking a dynamic, innovative, and experienced substitute Lower and Intermediate School Science teacher to join our expert faculty for approximately 5 weeks, to cover a leave of absence. The substitute will teach grades 1, 3, and 5. 1st grade is co-taught. Coursework is conducted in an experiential laboratory setting and curriculum covers all disciplines of Science. Curriculum is taught with thought provoking activities that challenge and inspire inquiry and a desire to understand the world. The substitute teacher must be able to incorporate a dynamic array of tools and technology and be able to show flexibility to engage students at different learning styles and abilities.
The substitute teacher will work April 15 through May 17, 2019, with two (2) days of cross-training during the first week of April (Parker is closed 4/8/19-4/12/19 for April Recess).

M.A. in Education preferred
At least three years experience teaching Lower School students, including science instruction
Flexibility in working with departmental teachers so that integration exists between other disciplines
Ability to collaborate, create, modify, and map curriculum with colleagues on a team
Organized and purposeful about materials and lesson plans
Excellent classroom management techniques
Ability to communicate clearly and tactfully with parents who have high expectations
Enthusiasm for professional development and seeker of further knowledge about pedagogy, including cultural competency and anti-bias teaching
Willingness to put in extra planning hours with grade level team to support shared experiences
Superior communication skills (both oral and written), sound judgment, and emotional maturity
Understanding and commitment to the tenets of progressive education
Additional Salary Information: $120/day for cross-training; then $150/full day; this position is not eligible for benefits.
