Seattle Country Day School seeks to hire a Grades 4-8 Band teacher, who, will create and implement a music ensemble program. Students will have had general music education and many are engaged in private music lessons. The teacher will identify a group of instruments that work well for ensemble band instruction and help students to select an instrument for their use in the program. The candidate must be able to arrange and/or write music that meets the developing skill levels of students. The instructor will organize an annual fall and spring concert and prepare students for these performances as well as various school events.
The successful candidate will have
Demonstrated knowledge of, and experience in, teaching elementary and middle school students how to play a musical instrument, how to read music, and how to play as part of an ensemble;
Experience successfully collaborating with colleagues;
Experience working with students from diverse ethnic, gender, socioeconomic, and educational backgrounds;
A strong interest in continued professional growth and inquiry-based instruction.
Provide whole class and small group instruction during the day and after school;
Collaborate with grade-level teachers to create cross-disciplinary themes of study;
Participate in curricular reviews, professional development and curriculum design to support student needs;
Participate in Student Support, Faculty, and Division Meetings; parent conferences;
Write report card narratives
Participate in school admissions and community events.
