Provide one-on-one and small-group support/instruction for students, both in push-in and pull-out environments.
Make regular observations and report on student achievement and progress.
Attend Parent-Teacher meetings to discuss student progress and identify action plans.
Meet with individual parents as necessary to discuss the progress of their children.
Read and summarize all psychoeducational evaluations for middle school students and for Admissions, as necessary.
Create dynamic, individual Academic Support Plans that will target the student’s specific learning needs.
Counsel families on academic support and assessment accommodations.
Support faculty by offering resources, assistance, advice, and training to enable faculty to better meet the needs of all students.
Develop and maintain communication and documentation protocols related to academic support.
Actively engage in all Middle School Grade Level meetings.
Coordinate information shared between the school and outside specialists.
Coordinate the tutoring of middle school students on campus.
Serve as a member of the Middle School Faculty and Advisor.
Attend Wellness Team meetings and events.
Bachelor’s degree in special education or related field. Master’s degree preferred.
At least 5 years of experience as a learning specialist or in a related role.
Strong knowledge of literacy and math support and enrichment programs.
Familiarity with legal responsibilities of independent schools as it relates to IEP and 504 plans.
Ability to collaborate with faculty, staff, administration and parents.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, verbally and in writing.
Positive attitude, flexible approach, a love of middle school and a sense of humor.
