The Potomac School is looking for a Part-time Extended Day Program Aide to work with students in the after school Program. This position reports directly to the Director of the Private Music Program, the Director of the Extended Day Program and the Director of Auxiliary Programs. The person in this role is primarily responsible for assisting with the supervision of extended day students and supervises the transport of music students to and from their music lessons. This position is scheduled to work 17.5 hours per week and is not eligible for benefits.
Duties & Responsibilities
Take daily attendance and oversee music students walking to and from music lessons
Work together with Extended Day Staff to monitor transportation needs of all students
Observe and monitor all extended day activities; playground, homework, quiet times and dismissal.
Assist with snack set-up, distribution and answering telephone
Organize and participate in all children’s play or recreational activities
Instruct children in healthy personal habits
Monitor children’s rest/quiet time and assist with homework as needed
Maintain all equipment and materials so that the environment is safe and clean
Interact with the children in a supportive manner always using a positive tone of voice
Support children’s emotional and social development
Be flexible and willing to take on new responsibilities especially when another staff members are absent
High school graduate with previous experience with children in a day care setting
Must have clear TB screening, first aid, CPR (Potomac will cover the cost of certifications)
Clear all background checks required by The Potomac School and VA Department of Social Services
Arrive on time and attend all staff meetings
Must have good knowledge and understanding of English and be able to communicate verbally and in writing
This position requires a person be in good physical shape with the ability to lift and carry large items, easily work on the floor with children, monitor and play outside in all types of weather, and sit or stand for extended period
