We are seeking an educator with demonstrated expertise and teaching experience in Middle School Physics, Engineering, and Design to join our team at the start of the 2019-2020 academic year.
Essential duties will include:
Daily classroom instruction;
Ongoing communication and conference with parents;
Advising and mentoring groups of students;
Conferencing with students and colleagues as required;
Active participation in the curricular improvement of the department and grade level; and
Willingness to participate in the outdoor education program with students.

Possessing a deep passion for science;
Having enthusiasm, flexibility, and a desire to collaborate with colleagues both in the department and across disciplines;
Developing curriculum that focuses on the real-world application of science and hands-on learning;
Providing instruction in varying group sizes and individually in the specified subject matter;
Establishing and maintaining standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom;
Developing lesson plans and instructional materials as part of planned learning experiences to motivate students;
Evaluating student academic and social growth, keeps accurate records, prepares progress reports and communicates with parents on individual student progress;
Creating, with assistance from students, a functional and attractive environment for learning through using displays, bulletin boards and learning centers and assumes responsibility for proper care and use of equipment;
Maintaining professional competence through participation in in-service education activities provided by the school and/or self-selected professional growth activities;
Completing all reports as required, including student evaluation, orders, program evaluation and lesson plans;
Interpreting the educational program to parents and other community members through personal conferences, meetings and various media;
Attending faculty meetings, in-service meetings, team meetings, grade level meetings or department meetings as required;
Administering and scoring such tests as may be required by the school;
Performing basic attendance accounting as required;
Supervising students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day as required;
Sharing in sponsorship of student activities and participates in faculty committees;
Performing other duties of an adjunct nature, which are necessary to smooth operation of the school as needed;
Maintaining active participation in the work of the department on curriculum development, vision and pedagogy;
Leading by example by contributing to school life as a positive community member in ways that go beyond the role in the classroom;
Fostering a supportive and caring classroom environment in which students can learn and interact positively with one another through student-centered instruction, collaboration and authentic assessment; and
Creating activities and opportunities that encourage curiosity, exploration, innovation, problem-solving, and the use of technology.
Candidates must hold at least a Bachelor’s degree in a related field of study. Prior teaching experience is expected; preference will be given to candidates with experience at independent schools specifically with teaching experience in physics.
Familiarity with computers and expertise in the use of technology to enhance instruction is also preferred. To perform this job successfully, an individual should have working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook) and Google Suite (Drive, Docs, Slides, etc.), and be able to learn to use other applications and hardware (OnCampus).

All school personnel must successfully complete a fingerprint background check through Live Scan and provide current tuberculosis clearance.
