The Evergreen School, an independent Preschool through Grade 8 school serving highly capable students, is currently accepting applications for a Upper Division Counselor. This position supports the social and emotional learning of Evergreen students and reports to the Upper Division Head. Chief responsibilities include guidance to students, parents and faculty when a child is experiencing difficulty and making therapist referrals for students in need. Additional responsibilities include maintaining strict confidentiality of student information and records. The Counselor works in close partnership with faculty and staff around social and emotional curriculum in the upper division advisor program, as well as the integration of such curriculum in subject area classes.
Council students individually and in groups
Coordinate communication with families in regard to social and emotional learning
Act as an intermediary to facilitate communication with staff, parents and outside providers
Coordinate and facilitate parent education
Maintain strict confidential student records
Oversight of the social and emotional curriculum in grades four through eight
Through regular grade level meetings and participation in individual advisory classes, support faculty in the development and implementation of social and emotional curriculum and lesson plans
Makes referrals to outside professionals (psychologist, psychiatrist, counselors, etc.)
Other duties as assigned
Experience and Desirable Qualities
Candidates for this position should have several years of experience working with students in grades Pre-K through eight and their families. Knowledge of gifted education and independent school culture is also important. Candidates should be comfortable speaking to small and large groups, communicating orally and in writing, mentoring and coaching faculty, and working collaboratively as a member of a team.
A master’s degree in a related field is preferred
