Francis W. Parker School is a renowned JK-12th grade independent day school. Founded in 1901 on the tenets of progressive education, the school currently enrolls 940 students and employs 200 dedicated faculty and staff members who, in addition to assistant teachers, substitute teachers and coaches, work together to ensure that the School lives up to its Mission to “educate students to think and act with empathy, courage and clarity as responsible citizens and leaders in a diverse, democratic society and global community.”
We are currently seeking an experienced Controller to join the School’s Business Office. Reporting directly to the CFO, the Controller is responsible for all the financial accounting of the School. The Controller also supervises the work of the Business Office staff and makes sure that the School is complying with all applicable accounting procedures and standards in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Direct the day-to-day operations of the Business Office.
Monitor (and, as necessary, develop and implement new) accounting, financial reporting and internal control systems throughout the Business Office and the other departments in the School under the CFO’s responsibility.
Review payroll, including the reporting of any variances.
Prepare monthly and year-end financial reports. Assist the CFO with periodic financial forecasts for the School.
Prepare work papers for the annual audit and coordinate the audit activity with outside auditors, including Form 990 and 5500 tax filings.
Assist the CFO in the preparation of the annual budget and work closely with department heads regarding the preparation and control of these budgets throughout the year. Report monthly to department heads the activity in their budgets.
Assist the CFO with banking relationships and with the relationship with the Bond Trustee and Letter of Credit banks. Preparation of any reports required for the bonds outstanding.
Monitor relevant changes in accounting standards, the tax code and any other applicable financial regulations.
Oversee the general ledger and billing and if necessary develop new procedures for these functions.
Oversee the accounting software and assure that it is current and meeting the needs of the School
Oversee the procedures used by accounts payable clerk and if necessary develop new procedures for these functions.
Assist the CFO in the reporting necessary for the Investment and Finance committees of the Board.
Oversee and reconcile the reporting of the Development Office and all financial information processed through their office.
Monitor and reconcile all monthly credit card activity and analyze monthly expense and expense reporting from card holders.

Minimum 5 years of previous Controller experience required
CPA strongly preferred
Experience in a school or nonprofit setting preferred
Proficiency in Blackbaud – Accounting for Nonprofits software preferred
Exceptional time management, organization & follow-through
Flexibility and ability to work independently and take initiative
Extremely strong organizational skills
Proficiency in MS Office, specifically Excel and PowerPoint
