Georgetown Day School (GDS) in Washington, DC, seeks an Assistant Athletic Director. Founded as the first racially and religiously integrated school in the Nation’s Capital, GDS continues to keep at the heart of its school mission the maintenance and cultivation of a just, ethical, and inclusive community. Responsibilities: To support the Athletic Director in re-envisioning and nurturing a successful Middle and High School athletic program.
Encourage the positive development of student athletes, as well as promote GDS’ mission, philosophy, and vision.
Assist in the organizing, preparation, and management of athletic seasons
Assist with Middle and High School athletic contests and act as the host to officials and visiting schools.
In coordination with the school nurses, ensure that all necessary medical forms are complete prior to the start of each season and that all coaches are aware and kept up to date regarding any and all player medical conditions.
Assist in the hiring, support, and evaluation of coaches.
With the AD, make sure all coaches and players understand and follow GDS’ policies, practices, and codes of conduct.
Review all Middle School athletic comments and grades.
Enter and ensure that all team rosters are up to on the school website.
Confirm scheduled games and officials for home matches.
Support the AD in the running of HALT (Hopper Athletic Leadership Team)
Compile and maintain a list of sports leagues, camps and classes that will be available on the GDS web site as a resource for students and parents.
Management of Equipment, Supplies, and Facilities
Assist Athletic Director in inventory and list of all athletic equipment and uniforms prior to the start of each season. At the conclusion of each season assist in collection and inventory of equipment and uniforms.
Oversee lining of fields for games and schedule routine maintenance of athletic facilities, including rental facilities, to ensure safe working conditions.
Oversee the organization and maintenance of the equipment closets and sheds at the Middle School and High School.
Teach P.E. and Health classes at the High School or Middle School as necessary.
Other duties as assigned.
Health background preferred.
Possess a broad knowledge of many sports.
Knowledge of the overall operations of an athletic program.
Strong communication, public relation, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and consistently meet deadlines
High level of integrity, diplomacy, and initiative
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Flexibility, sense of humor, and willingness to assist with administrative tasks in a fast-paced team environment
