Founded by two bold, visionary entrepreneurs in 1920 - the same year that women won the right to vote - The Nightingale-Bamford School gives girls from diverse backgrounds a rigorous college preparatory education. The school is widely recognized as one of the top girls’ schools in the country. There are currently 604 students enrolled in the school (Lower School 225; Middle School 195 and Upper School 213). Average class size is 12, student to faculty ratio is 6:1. The school is located on the Upper East Side in Manhattan, in the Carnegie Hill neighborhood, near many museums and Central Park. Eighty full-time faculty members teach in the technologically advanced school house. Nearly all graduates attend four-year, “highly selective” colleges and universities.
The Nightingale-Bamford School history department seeks a full-time history teacher beginning in September 2019. We seek candidates who will bring experience and enthusiasm to the full range of courses offered by the department, including world history, world religions, and U.S. history. The successful candidate should be eager to teach both middle and upper school. Qualified candidates will possess at minimum an undergraduate degree in history or another related field and at least three years of teaching experience at the middle and/or upper school level. Experience running and/or supporting programs such as debate or a student publication is a plus. The school and the history department welcome the opportunity to continue to find ways to diversify our faculty.
At Nightingale-Bamford, the history department collaborates to create curriculum and assessments, so candidates should be ready to work as part of a team. Candidates should be equally passionate about their subject and students and possess a commitment to the best practices of teaching history and ongoing professional development. Our faculty members are expected to participate and contribute to the school community outside of the classroom.
