Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart is sponsored by the Society of the Sacred Heart and is part of an international network of schools in thirty-four countries. Sacred Heart schools are guided by the educational vision of Saint Madeleine Sophie Barat as articulated in the Goals and Criteria. Full time faculty members participate in forming young women of grace, grit, and gratitude by teaching five courses, providing office hours, serving as club advisors, chaperoning student trips, and fulfilling other duties assigned by the Upper School Head. Additionally, Upper School faculty work collaboratively under the leadership of the world languages department chair.
Essential duties and responsibilities
Use cognitive science and educational research to inform teaching practices.
Participate in reflective, self-directed, on-going professional development.
Strategically implement a variety of tools for the purpose of teaching students the four language skills: reading, writing, listening and speaking.
Possess an interest and enthusiasm for educating students on the culture and history of countries.
Create and define goals and objectives for unit and daily lessons plans, prepare classroom activities, organize teaching materials, evaluate student performance, maintain classroom records, and manage time effectively.
Prepare and conduct the classes and programs with the developmental needs of the assigned age of group(s) clearly in mind.
Hold conferences with students, parents, administrators, or other professionals.
Participate in faculty meetings, liturgies, chapels, retreats, school assemblies, and special events such as parents’ night, admissions showcases, and graduation.
World language teachers can be expected to teach different levels of competence, either in groups by levels or different levels of competence in the same group; strong organizational skills and fluency are necessary.
Additional research and organizational or supervisory duties, such as overseeing the school's Mandarin club, French National Honor Society meetings, Hispanic Heritage activities, Spanish International Certification program, etc. are also required.
Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree French, Education or a related field
Strong communication skills
Demonstrated success with effective use of technology
Prior teaching experience preferred
Experience with teaching AP and IB courses is preferred
