Marin Preparatory School (MPS) is a TK – 8, co-ed elementary and middle school with approximately 200 students. We offer a Spanish Infused, rigorous academic program with an equal emphasis on the social/emotional well-being of our students. We are located in San Francisco, CA.
Our Middle School is comprised of grades 5-8 and offers a departmentalized approach to academics. The Middle School Humanities Teacher is a full-time position, teaching three separate sections of Humanities (grades 6, 7 and 8). In addition, the person will serve as an advisor to a group of approximately 10-12 middle school students and participate in the broader life of the school including offering elective courses, conducting parent/teacher conferences, chaperoning field trips and other student life activities, and more. The ideal candidate possesses experience teaching a wide range of topics in the Humanities including both English and History, with an understanding of the Lucy Calkins curriculum.
The successful candidate will have a proven record of collaborative teamwork together with an understanding of interpersonal relations, strong verbal and written communication skills, and a healthy sense of humor.
Bachelor’s degree in a Humanities, English, History, or related field; Master’s Degreepreferred
Experience with Middle School students;
Experience utilizing content delivery technology;
Teaching credential preferred;
Three-five years of teaching experience in Independent schools preferred
Prefer Spanish language ability
Develop lesson plans, instructional materials and provide individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.
Use a variety of teaching strategies, such as inquiry, group discussions, lecture, discovery, project-based learning, and technology.
Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional, engaging learning atmosphere in the classroom.
Evaluate students’ academic and social/emotional growth, keep appropriate records and prepare progress reports.
Communicate with parents through conferences and other means students’ progress and social/emotional growth.
Create an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive bulletin boards, displays and interest centers.
Maintain and build professional competencies by participating in Professional Development opportunities.
Effective communication with the Head of School around student, parent and colleague issues.
Administer effective evaluations including standardized tests.
Participate in curriculum development.
