Lincoln School, founded in 1884, is an independent K-12 Quaker girls’ school in Providence, Rhode Island. We are currently seeking a Chair of the Performing Arts Department starting in August 2019.
Qualified candidates will have experience overseeing performing arts faculty in a broad range of disciplines including instrumental and vocal music as well as in all aspects of the theatrical production process. The Department chair role entails working closely with the departmental faculty on curriculum development, best instructional practices, and the yearly professional growth and performance review program. A central component of the role will be working with the lower, middle, and upper school division directors to develop a strategic vision for the department moving forward in the areas of curriculum and pedagogy. In addition, the Performing Arts Chair will be responsible for planning and implementing Lincoln’s yearly concert series, the school’s fall, winter, and spring plays, and a variety of other special school performances as needed.
Teaching responsibilities will be dictated by the individual candidate’s strengths. The ability to collaborate effectively with a wide range of school constituencies is a key component of the position. A commitment to an all-girls environment, a sense of humor, and the desire to inspire and engage young women in the performing arts are essential.Contributions to school life beyond the classroom are expected, as well as the ability to embrace and forward the Quaker mission of Lincoln School. An advanced degree is preferred.
