St. Edmund’s Academy seeks an experienced educator and community leader to design, implement, and oversee the school’s diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. The Director of Equity and Inclusion will be a member of the school’s senior administrative team and report to the Head of School. The position will begin on July 1, 2019.
Key Administrative Responsibilities:
Designs, implements, and oversees diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives with a focus on cultural competence toward an understanding and appreciation of the differences among people.
Serves as a community leader and resource developing strong relationships with various diversity and inclusion-related groups in the school and responds to inclusion and equity-related issues within the community as they arise.
Establishes thoughtfully sequenced strategic objectives that support diversity, equity, and inclusion and implements tracking and communication systems demonstrating progress and effectiveness.
Develops and oversees a communication plan celebrating diversity, equity, and inclusion at the school.
Acts as a liaison between the school and local communities to serve these communities better and to support the school’s outreach, retention, and recruitment programs.
Plans, develops, markets, and oversees cultural-competence and inclusion-focused education, programs, professional development, and events for trustees, faculty, staff, students, and families.
Improves effectiveness and success, in collaboration with the hiring team, in the recruiting and retaining of diverse faculty and staff reflective of the student body’s composition.
Evaluates, advises on, and supports the development of an inclusive and culturally-competent curriculum across divisions and school-wide programs including the school’s weekly Chapel service.
Serves as a resource for faculty with respect to curriculum design, instructional strategies, methods of assessment & evaluation, and culturally-competent classroom management practices.
Collaborates with the Admissions Office to recruit, welcome, and retain students from diverse backgrounds and advises on mentoring programs for new families.
Additional Leadership Responsibility:
Based on experience and expertise, The Director of Equity and Inclusion will also lead one of the three divisions at St. Edmund’s Academy. In that role, the Director of Equity and Inclusion partners with the Director of Academics and Director of Co-Curricular Programs who also each lead a division.
An advanced degree, master’s or higher
At least 3 years leading institutional efforts around diversity, equity, and inclusion
At least 5 years of teaching experience
Demonstrated ability to partner with multiple constituencies—students, parents, alumni, teachers, staff, administrators, and trustees
Experience leading teams and facilitating workshops on diversity, equity, inclusion, and cultural competency
Experience collaborating with and leading teachers, particularly in an independent school setting
Excellent communication, organizational skills, and attention to detail
A deep appreciation for children and the life of a vibrant school community
