Greens Farms Academy seeks a Middle School Science Teaching Fellow to begin in August 2019. Teaching fellows teach a reduced courseload and contribute to other aspects of independent school life: leading clubs and activities, chaperoning trips, and possibly coaching. Teaching fellowships are generally two-year positions and offer relatively new teachers opportunities for mentorship and professional growth. The position will most likely include teaching 5th Grade Science, which focuses on food systems, water, anatomy, renewable energy, and sustainability more broadly. In addition, there may be opportunities to teach fourth-grade science, cover courses in other disciplines in the Middle School (depending on interest), and play an important leadership role in the school’s sustainability efforts. as part of a collegial Middle School faculty and PreK-12 science department that places significant emphasis on place-based and hands-on learning, design thinking, STEAM, and sustainability; the school sits at the junction of three ecosystems, all of which serve as outdoor classrooms. Please consult the school’s website for more information about the PreK-12 Sustainability signature program, as well as the Upper School capstone concentration in Human Ecology and Sustainability.
The ideal candidate will have some experience working with children at the upper elementary or lower Middle School level and a demonstrated passion for engaging around sustainability topics. For all positions, we look for candidates who enjoy working with colleagues in a collaborative environment, who are flexible and creative, who will fully engage in the life of the school, and who are committed to fostering an inclusive and equitable community.
