Collegiate School seeks an energetic, experienced and committed Lower School K-2 Science teacher who will inspire students’ curiosity and love of learning by providing a developmentally appropriate environment where students flourish. This teacher will use curriculum, time and resources to encourage each student’s development as an inquisitive thinker, responsible citizen and compassionate leader. Strong relationships with students, parents and colleagues are the foundation of the experience. This is a full-time, benefited, 10-month faculty position.
Responsibilities will include:
Maintaining a safe, healthy and inviting learning space where all students are respected and valued
Creating and executing inquiry-based, well-designed lesson plans that integrate a range of resources including technology to engage, enhance and extend learning goals
Implement NGSS standards and evidence-based teaching and learning practices in which students are regularly asked to demonstrate understanding
Work collaboratively with classroom teachers and those in other STEAM areas to develop learner-centered opportunities
Providing parents with information related to classroom learning and each child’s growth
Identifying and pursuing professional opportunities that enhance and extend one’s teaching
Serving on committees and engaging in professional group work as necessary
Supervising lunch, recess, carpool and other duties as required
Participating in all required School events
Qualities of a successful candidate will include:
Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree and/or Virginia teaching certification preferred)
Knowledge of and passion for elementary Science education
Science teaching experience
Strong commitment to teach and assess in multiple modalities
Ability to inspire students’ curiosity and love of learning
Enthusiasm for professional growth, academic excellence and creative teaching
Commitment to broad participation in school life
Experience in and commitment to the ongoing development and maintenance of an inclusive campus community
