The St. Paul’s Schools are searching for a Director of Upper School Jazz Bands for the 2019 - 2020 school year. This person will be responsible for leading two Jazz Bands, including a beginning/ intermediate-level ensemble and an advanced Jazz Band. Candidates should have extensive knowledge of current pedagogy in music education and instrumental conducting, as well as significant experience teaching brass, percussion, guitar, bass, winds, jazz theory, improvisation, and keyboard instruments.
Preferred candidates will have degree(s) in instrumental music education or a related field, as well as demonstrated success in performance, mastery on an instrument or instruments, knowledge of current music technology, strong communication skills, experience working in independent schools, and evidence of ongoing professional development. Responsibilities include leading the ensembles in rehearsals, active engagement on the campus of The St. Paul’s Schools, outreach to the greater Baltimore community, and supporting an active performance schedule. This is a half-time position.
