Upper School Science Faculty Seattle, WA

The Bush School is in search of an individual to join our Upper School Science Department to teach Science. We are seeking a candidate who will support the school’s mission of diversity and inclusion and who has a background that displays and proves an understanding of cultural fluency.
While other duties may be assigned, a qualified candidate will be able to manage the key responsibilities and tasks as listed below:
Teach four science sections in a semester system focused on Biology and Advanced Biology; Chemistry sections as needed
Develop unique and engaging semester-long science electives within their field of interest
Collaborate, as part of an interdisciplinary team, to create two Three-Week Immersion Programs. During immersions, faculty and students are engaged in a single course of study. During these academic, community engaged Immersions, faculty teams approach complex problems and real-life challenges through project-based work
Collaborate with other members of the science faculty to create common experiences centered on student inquiry
Enrich or modify lessons, curriculum, materials and resources as needed to meet differentiated student needs and varying levels of progress inside and outside of the classroom
Collaborate with school counselors and learning specialists to establish and maintain social-emotional learning and wellness for all students
Communicate openly and supportively with students, staff, parents and other stakeholders regarding students’ achievement and progress
Utilize technology to support student success (e.g. Google Docs, Google Sheets, LMS, Vernier Probes, etc.)
Serve as an academic advisor to a group of 8-10 students
Serve on an Upper School faculty committee and attend committee meetings
Participate in after-school duties such as Open House, Curriculum Night, and chaperoning school events
Experience teaching in a classroom setting with high school age students preferred
A bachelor’s or graduate degree in Biology, Chemistry, or related field
Skill in the use of technology and a willingness to learn and utilize new platforms
Successful Candidates will have:
Capacity and desire to engage in experiential activities and programs with students
Appreciation for a growth-mindset approach to all students and an ability to understand and respond to the developmental needs of high school students
Ability to collaborate with colleagues to create curriculum and programming at grade, department, division, and school-wide levels
Ability to manage deadlines and due dates efficiently
Effective writing and strong verbal communication skills
Skill in the use of technology: including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office Suite
