The Bush School is in search of an individual to join our Middle School team to teach Music. We are seeking a candidate who will support the school’s mission of diversity and inclusion and who has a background that displays and proves an understanding of cultural fluency.
The Middle School Music Faculty member will offer students creative opportunities that inspire students musically. While other duties may be assigned, a qualified candidate will be able to manage the key responsibilities and tasks listed below:
Experience with both choral and instrumental music; instrumental experience could include band, strings, percussion, jazz, and mixed ensembles.
Demonstrate an inclusive approach to student creativity that celebrates music
Create and sustain classroom culture based on the mission and values of the school
Collaborate and work professionally and constructively with colleagues
Prepare and deliver effective instruction for sixth through eighth grade students
Teach students music in an environment where students are challenged and encouraged to learn and explore creatively
Host, support and coordinate open-mic events twice per academic school year
Develop and lead the eighth grade music performance each academic school year
Differentiate instructional resources and methods to meet students’ varying needs
Contribute to a progressive education environment where students are encouraged to learn by doing
Create and sustain effective partnerships with parents/guardians
Successful candidates will have:
Experience in teaching – a minimum of 3-5 years is preferred
A bachelor’s or graduate degree in Music Education
Training in active music education approaches (e.g. Orff Schulwerk, Kodaly, and Dalcroze a plus)
Capacity and desire to engage in experiential activities and programs with students
Skill in the use of technology: including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office Suite
Effective and timely/responsive communication skills (verbally and in writing) with administrators, colleagues, staff and families, which sustain constructive and professional relationships
Ability to find joy in promoting a lifelong love of learning and in working with children
Ability to work in a team – grade level, department and division
