Pulaski Academy is conducting a national search for a dynamic, highly qualified educational leader to serve as Head of Upper School, effective July 1, 2019. This position will report directly to the President and Head of School. Located in the Pleasant Valley area of suburban West Little Rock, PA is an independent, coeducational college preparatory day school of approximately 1345 students from age two and a half through grade twelve.
In addition to oversight of all Upper School programs, the Head of Upper School will:
Work closely with the administration, fellow Division Heads, the Upper School faculty, the College Counselor, and the Athletic Director to design and implement school-wide programs, events, and activities consistent with the Vision and Mission of the School.
Provide academic leadership in the areas of division-level programming, curriculum development, and professional growth for faculty.
Supervise the daily operation of the Upper School including supervision of students, planning, and reporting.
Attend and provide supervision for extracurricular events and activities.
Desirable personal and professional qualities including the following:
Experience in secondary administration.
Experience in hiring, evaluating, and leading highly self-motivated, creative faculty members.
Experience teaching in a secondary setting.
Knowledge of current trends and movements in education.
Intelligence, strong academic background, and intellectual curiosity.
Strong interpersonal skills in working with students, parents, and faculty.
Collaborative approach to working with colleagues.
Understands the importance of balance and a broad perspective in school life and supports the arts, athletics, and other extracurricular activities as well as athletics.
A person with drive and energy.
The ideal candidate may currently be: an administrator (division head, academic dean, department chair, dean of students, etc.) at a leading independent school; a current or former Head of School who wishes to have more direct contact with faculty and students and to be more involved with day to day management of a vibrant Upper School.

Additional Salary Information: 12 month contract renewable on an annual basis. PA provides health dental, Group life and long-term disability insurances as well as a generous retirement plan through TIAA-CREF that matche sup to 4% of salary after one year of service.

The institution is composed of four divisions or schools: Early Childhood School, Lower School, Middle School and Upper School. PA’s Upper School enrolls approximately 415 students in grades 9-12.

Twenty Advanced Placement and twelve honors courses are available to our Upper School students. In the three academic years prior to 2008-2009 PA had three National AP Scholars, 30 AP Scholars with Distinction, 14 AP Scholars with Honor, and 44 AP Scholars.

With 120 faculty members (Pre-K through 12), PA offers an impressive student faculty ratio of 11:1, providing for individual attention and a wide selection of course offerings.
