Founded in 1829, Burr and Burton Academy is an independent, coeducational Vermont high school with a public mission. It serves as the school of choice for 768 students who come from Manchester, surrounding communities, and countries overseas. Situated at the foot of Mt. Equinox and overlooking picturesque Manchester Village, Burr and Burton is a school with a proud tradition of educating students of diverse backgrounds and talents in a supportive and caring environment. The Burr and Burton Academy Mountain Campus has a position open, beginning August 2019, to teachers in any content area or discipline. The team will adjust roles based on the strengths of its members. Candidates should demonstrate the following qualities:
Commitment to experiential, expeditionary, and service learning.
Dedication to collaboration, particularly with planning, instruction, and feedback.
Facility in community relations and off-campus partnerships that help students learn from their communities.
Willingness and ability to take the lead on student skill-building re: developing outdoor education, leadership, community, character and interpersonal skills.
Prioritization of patient, supportive relationships with individual students; this is particularly important in a program that demands intensively knowing and working with students all day, every day.
Enjoyment of hiking and camping several weeks each year, and of daily chores with students.
