UPPER SCHOOL HUMANITIES TEACHER
A Maumee Valley teacher is a guide who orchestrates learning for students in ways that are engaging, challenging and relevant. The successful candidate is a resourceful and innovative teacher who utilizes a range of pedagogical techniques in order to reach all learners. All learners will feel safe, respected and confident in the environment created by this candidate. We ask all of our teachers to do the following:
Teach full load of high school level English and Social Studies classes
Manage a student load of between 60 and 80 students
Nurture and support an advisee group of between 8 and 12 students
Participate in the life of the school by attending athletic, arts, fundraising, and other school events
Chaperone school functions, such as dances and school trips as needed
Participate on committees and task forces as needed
Sponsor student clubs and activities as needed
Maintain open lines of communication with students, parents, and colleagues
Skills and Competencies:
Sense of humor and demonstrated success working with teenagers
Experience teaching a range of high school classes from 9th grade to Advanced Placement courses
Flexible and adaptable - able to teach courses, such as Advanced Placement, standard and elective Social Studies and English courses
Facility with experiential education
Ability to differentiate instruction
Ability to design units and lessons with a backward design framework, such as Understanding by Design
Ability to collaborate within and between departments both to advance the departments’ goals and to build interdisciplinary learning opportunities
Capacity to maximize advantages of educational technology
At least 3 years experience in teaching high school Social Studies, English, or Humanities classes
Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field required; Master’s Degree, relevant coursework, or relevant professional experience preferred

The Upper school is recognized for it’s extraordinary learning opportunities. The Upper School’s Winterim program enhances students' learning with intensive, focused month long experiences. Students select from offerings that include classes, local as well as international educational trips and independent study projects. The Fine and Performing Arts programs are a part of the core curriculum of the Upper School.
