The Cape Henry Collegiate Performing Arts Department seeks an experienced, student centered Director of Orchestras to join our team full time beginning in August 2019. Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Music (or a related field) as well as strong experience conducting orchestras in a school setting. Those candidates with a Master’s degree will be given priority consideration.
Qualified candidates should possess a passion for working with students of a variety of ages as well as the ability to arrange music to fit the various levels of the students. In addition, candidates must demonstrate a positive attitude, excellent listening and communication skills, the ability to work collaboratively with others, and a willingness to extend themselves beyond the classroom to support student success. The ideal candidate will also have the knowledge and skills to adapt music for guitar students who also participate in orchestra as well as teach a middle school percussion ensemble class.
Major Areas of Responsibility:
Oversee the curriculum and instruction for the Lower, Middle, and Upper School Orchestra Ensembles.
Provide instruction for the Middle School Percussion Ensemble in coordination with the Band Instructor.
Design and implement the program for a variety of performances during the school year.
Collaborate on curriculum and programming with the performing arts faculty.
Requirements: Successful candidates will have a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree preferred, and at least three years of teaching experience. Excellent written and oral communication skills and a dedication to independent school education are required.
