Located in Wilmington, NC, Cape Fear Academy is southeastern North Carolina’s premier PK3-12 independent school. Teachers at Cape Fear Academy deliver high quality instruction that emphasizes critical thinking, written and oral communication, and collaboration in a technology-rich environment. Applications are now being accepted for the following position:
Middle School History/Physical Education & Health Teacher
Teach primarily History and secondarily Physical Education/Health for middle school students.
Develop students’ critical thinking skills regarding historical events including the teaching of writing, debate, and oral presentation, appreciation of cultures and historical periods, etc.
Teach health-related topics such as fitness, nutrition, and healthy habits.
Develop student skills and abilities in physical fitness and teach concepts of leadership, team work, and safe practices in exercise and sports activities.
Serve as a faculty advisor to students.
Provide a range of instructional and assessment strategies to meet the needs of all students.
Collaborate with staff members to create engaging lessons and a positive school culture.
Track student data and uphold high behavioral and academic expectations.
Provide tutoring to individual and small student groups as required.
Continuously communicate and build relationships with students and families.
Performs other projects and duties as assigned.
Teacher should be experienced and knowledgeable in all levels of middle school social studies with a history of successful teaching methods, particularly ancient history, cultures and kingdoms in Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Asia in the period 400 CE – 1200 CE and early US history.
Teacher should have an interest in and ability to contribute to extracurricular activities. Knowledge of current physical education instructional methods and differentiated instruction is preferred.
Demonstrated flexibility to develop curriculum in a variety of subject areas.
Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills.
Bachelor’s degree in History or related Humanities field required; Master’s degree preferred.
Three or more years of teaching experience in social studies, preferably in middle school.
Experience teaching physical fitness and/or sport activities.
School leadership experience strongly preferred
