The Apprentice Teacher positions are for candidates eager to participate in and learn through the development of a new academic program. Apprentice teachers help create and support classroom learning and school culture. Bennett Day School is looking for educators new to the profession who are deeply invested in a collaborative work environment where they will participate actively in the teaching and learning process with students. Apprentice Teachers at Bennett Day School are also responsible for the integration of technology in the classroom as a powerful tool for student learning and documenting the process. They will work in close collaboration with the lead and specialist teachers to develop and support best practices with technology and materials as it relates to the learning process. Apprentice Teachers should understand that teaching is dynamic and will work in tandem with the lead teacher to adapt and integrate this belief in the daily work in the classroom and school community. Over the year, duties will shift from an observing assistant role to more of a partnership with lead teacher.
Experience in primary and early childhood classrooms
Collaborative mindset; adept at working with teams and open to new ideas
Direct classroom work with children ages 5 to 8 years old
With direct partnership with Lead teacher, start off the year focusing on understanding our program and gaining confidence in taking more responsibility towards the end of the year; including input in student narratives and portfolios
Teaching responsibilities include Earth Science
Supervision responsibilities: MorningCare, family-style lunch, snack, recess and gross motor play
Model positive behavior and support classroom management procedures
Engage in professional development, training, workshops and/or classes
Individual student and group work documentation
Participation in self-evaluation and reflection process
Collaborative role in learning and supporting technology and material integration
Support the process of documentation, including digital portfolios, and website management
Professional Development: Monday afternoon faculty meetings and Wednesday afternoon, ongoing professional development in and out of school, beginning and end of year PD
Participation in family/community evening/weekend events: Curriculum Night, Family Association Meeting and 2 of the following required; Parent Panel, Open House, New Family Play Date or other additional Admissions/Marketing outreach events.
Participation in Morning arrival or dismissal duties as assigned
Hours: 7:30a-4:00p T/TH/F; 7:30a-5:00p M/W (Faculty meetings and Professional Development)
Responsibilities are not all-inclusive and will include other duties as assigned
