Summary: A Middle School teacher teaches four sections of class and serves as a student advisor. In addition, they teach a fifth course, coach two seasons of athletics, or lead a major extra curricular responsibility. This position includes three sections of sixth grade life science and an additional sixth grade class of either math or geography.
Responsibilities: * Collaborate with the Science department and the Science department chair to implement the curriculum. * Collaborate with a grade level team to support the social and emotional growth of the students within the grade. * Use a variety of instructional methods to create dynamic, engaging lessons, which support the diversity of learners within the classroom. * Impart enthusiasm for learning and inspire students to participate fully in the learning process. * Foster student growth of moral character. * Provide and maintain a stimulating, safe classroom environment. * Practice respectful and effective classroom management techniques, which support active learning and promote responsibility. * Collaborate effectively with parents and guardians. * Collaborate with the Middle School faculty to support positive student behavior for all Middle School students. * Attend faculty and community meetings. * Participate fully in the life of the school, including grade-level trips.
Qualifications: The successful candidate will have earned a bachelor’s degree in science; master’s degree preferred. Demonstrated effective middle school teaching experience is preferred and the candidate must have a passion for science and the ability to create interesting, engaging science lessons.
Essential elements for the position include a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion, cultural competency, the ability to inspire young people, the capacity to work cooperatively with peers, a keenness for working with Middle Schoolers, and a joyful sense of humor. Familiarity with Google G-Suite for education and Mac hardware/systems is preferred.
