The Miami Valley School seeks a passionate and skillful teaching artist, who is eager to invest her/his talents in our middle and upper school visual arts program. Expertise in painting and an interest in one or more of the following media: art history, sculpture, printmaking, photography or graphic design is preferable. A teaching artist specializing in other media will be considered. We are seeking an individual who is passionate about his/ her craft, inspiring to students and enjoys collaborating with others. The teacher must establish a supportive and engaging environment for middle and upper school students (grades 6-12), demonstrate the ability to create developmentally appropriate curricula, work collaboratively with colleagues and parents, have excellent communication skills, and demonstrate a teaching proficiency and comfort with a variety of different teaching and learning styles. The Miami Valley School celebrates the arts with small classes, cultural diversity, and well-lit galleries to exhibit student work. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, creativity, and flexibility. Prior experience working with students and a strong exhibition resume is essential. Strong candidates will have earned a bachelor’s degree in Fine Art, or art education is required, an advanced degree is preferred.
Reports to: The Assistant Head of School for Academics and collaborates closely with the directors of the middle and upper school.

Demonstrate an ability to develop a rapport with 6-12 grade students
Commit to ongoing professional development
Lead and/or advise extracurricular activities, which include student clubs and athletics
Communicate with parents, both verbally and in writing, effectively and often
Meet all other expectations and responsibilities as outlined by the Faculty Handbook
Teach four sections each term of visual arts
Lead/Co-lead an Immersion program in January
Develop and propose new courses each year, including new Immersion programs
Update Canvas, MVS’ Learning Management Software (LMS), and MyBackpack regularly to keep both students and families informed about student progress and performance
Assist aspiring upper school students with building a portfolio for their college applications
Write recommendation letters for seniors applying to college
Attend faculty meetings and fulfill all other faculty responsibilities that may occur outside the school day, such as including writing reports and planning, chaperoning student events, and attending school-related functions
Serve as an assistant advisor for a group of 8-12 students
Perform other duties as assigned.
Undergraduate or Master Degree in Fine Art, or art education
Demonstrate computer literacy and proficiency (e.g., Google suite of applications, student information systems, and online grade book programs)
The desire to work with pre-teen and teenage students in an experiential and “hands-on” setting
