Summary: Saint Mary’s Hall seeks a Head Varsity Volleyball Coach and Lower School PE Teacher.
Requirements: Saint Mary’s Hall is seeking a passionate, energetic individual who strives to build a highly competitive and challenging program for the SMH student-athletes while supporting the school’s mission statement. Saint Mary’s Hall is committed to offering a rewarding experience for the students while maintaining high academic standards. A SMH coach is an individual who seeks excellence on a daily basis while teaching life skills that will benefit the student-athletes within the program for many years to come.
A. or B.S. in a related field required
Head Volleyball Coaching experience is preferred
Successful teaching experience in lower school recommended
Team-teach a minimum of 5 elementary physical education classes each day
Assume any faculty duties as assigned by LS Division Head
Communicate effectively with parents, colleagues, staff, and administration
Support the efforts of vertical team planning and curriculum alignment and work with the Physical Education Coordinator in providing an age appropriate and challenging PE curriculum and organizing special events
Work with the Athletic Director in performing any additional daily duties in preparation for any PE classes, setting up for games and/or tournaments, and any other tasks as designated.
Participate in professional development activities
Oversee the entire volleyball program from grades 5 through 12. The head coach will work in coordination with the Athletic Director in the hiring of assistants and lower level coaches. The Head Coach will also develop a culture for the sport and ensure continuity from the lower levels through the Upper School program
Work with the athletic department to provide opportunities for instruction and skill development for Lower School students
Develop an off-season program, camps and clinics to promote the sport within the school and surrounding community
Act as a positive role model in all settings and foster an environment of respect, tolerance, integrity and responsibility
Help maintain high standards of sportsmanship and fair play in all facets of the athletic program
To exemplify a sense of professionalism at all times which includes game and practice times, with opponents, parents, faculty, staff and administration
To encourage participation and interest within the student body
Adhere to all rules and regulations stated in the TAPPS bylaws and Saint Mary’s Hall Athletic Department
Remain aware of all legal liabilities related to all athletic activities and ensure a safe environment for all athletes
Enhance and refine fundamental skills and game strategies.
Attend all required meetings or events for TAPPS and the SMH athletic department
To allow for the development and enhancement of qualities of sportsmanship, leadership, loyalty and commitment
To work with the athletic department in the development of scheduling, maintaining an inventory of equipment and be able to put together both a short and long-term plan for the program’s growth
To support and promote individual players in pursuing opportunities to play beyond the high school level
Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time
Exhibit manual dexterity to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids
Speak audible tones so that others may understand clearly
Ability to bend, to stoop, to walk and to reach overhead
Duties may be occasionally performed on field trips away from school
Hear and understand speech at normal levels, outdoors and on the telephone
Physical agility to lift up to 50 pounds
Duties are normally performed in a school environment or outdoors
