Position commences in the 2019-2020 school year. Start date: 8/1/19.
The Special Education Teacher plans and administers the instructional program and classroom operation in compliance with guidelines and regulations determined by the administration, Board of Directors, state and federal agencies.
Writes all initial IEP’s for Freshmen (present level, goals, etc.) then schedules and facilitates them on professional development days
Teaching small classes of physical science instruction and reading strategies.
Gives Woodcock-Johnson (or other achievement assessments) to all Freshmen
Provides specialized instruction based upon IEP goals and individual needs
Recognizes the special needs of students with learning challenges and makes appropriate accommodations as needed
Uses technology to promote learning, creativity, and collaboration
Conducts, develops, and informs students of reasonable rules concerning classroom procedures and behavior and maintains a safe and orderly classroom environment
Builds collaborative relationships with parents and students through regular communication and is available to students and parents for education-related purposes, e.g. open house, conferences, extra-curricular activities

Required Education/License/Certification(s) and Experience
Certified in LD, BD/ED, EMR, Cross Cat, or other areas of exceptional children
Reading certification is preferred but not required
Experience working with twice exceptional, Asperger’s, language impaired students
Experience with co-teaching model
Ability to work on a team
Embraces project-based learning
Successful experience teaching small groups of students
Ability to monitor student progress through data
Full time position
Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday 8AM to 4PM with additional hours as needed
