Bridges is a youth development program committed to the long term success of motivated young people in Baltimore City and to providing life-changing volunteer opportunities to independent school students. Our team of 12 currently serves 270 Baltimore City youth ages 9-22 and 186 independent high school volunteers per year via two program sites – Bridges at St. Paul’s School (est. 1993) & Bridges at Gilman School (est. 2014) – on a budget of $1.1mm. We are seeking one highly motivated professional to join our leadership team as “Deputy Director.” This role is critical to Bridges’ plans to serve more young people in Baltimore and will be responsible for executing time-sensitive organizational priorities, developing partnerships, writing grants, and guiding the execution of key communications projects. The ideal candidate:
Has demonstrated career success and aspires to enter senior level non-profit administration / leadership
Has the ability to build trust and partnership with internal and external stakeholders from a wide variety of backgrounds
Has strong project management skills and an interest in working with / managing people to execute communications projects
Can balance the demands of vision casting, project planning, and detailed execution
Enjoys writing and speaking and can do both effectively to a range of audiences
Thrives in an entrepreneurial / mission focused environment that includes team-work as well as autonomy & strong time management skills
The Deputy Director will support / manage:
Working with and/or leading the ED, leadership team, and program team to execute time-sensitive organizational priorities. Priorities will focus on organizational development / enhancement, but could include programmatic enhancements, depending on the skills / experiences of the holder.
Working with the ED and team to manage and grow relationships with key strategic partners and to strengthen overall partner stewardship within Bridges
Identifying opportunities for strategic partnerships and leading / supporting exploration, development, and relationship management
Writing & Managing Communications Projects
Writing content and managing timelines for writing-focused projects including presentations, grant proposals, and reports
Managing contractors and/or internal team members in execution of communications projects including website, annual report, and social media
Forecasting and planning for future communications needs and costs
Supporting the ED on organizational needs and projects as requested
Managing / coaching a junior level administrator supporting the work of the Deputy Director
Staying current on trends and opportunities that could enhance work areas over time
Candidates with the following background will be considered for this role:
Education: Undergraduate degree with a proven record of academic success
Work Experience: 4+ years of successful work that shows potential in this role
Mission Alignment: Demonstrated orientation towards mission-focused initiatives
Personal Development: Demonstrated capacity to learn, adjust, and grow
Technical Skills: Experience with existing workplace technology (Excel, Outlook, Word, Dropbox) and ability to adapt to new applications as needed
