Starting in the 2019/2020 school year, the music department seeks a dedicated and energetic, full-time instructor to lead jazz ensembles, teach courses in music technology, and to provide direction and leadership for a growing program in music technology. This instructor leads two jazz ensembles (intermediate and advanced) in rehearsals and performances. The academy looks to support growth in jazz, world, and other areas of contemporary music-making; development of small ensembles in all these genres is likely in future years. Jazz ensembles perform three times yearly at end-of-term concerts as well as at a variety of other campus events. This instructor will also be responsible for the overall planning, support and execution of our music technology curriculum as well as working with campus IT services to maintain and grow our production suite and the recording technology associated with our performance hall. Duties will include occasional audio recording and live sound support for concert series presentations as well student recordings for college admissions, competitions, etc. Candidates must be fluent in Logic Pro, Ableton Live, and Sibelius. It is desirable that candidates could teach classes in jazz theory, improvisation, and/or the history and culture of jazz, contemporary, or world music.
Experience and enthusiasm for working with adolescents both inside and outside of the classroom is essential. Spending time with students giving extra help, advising, working as dormitory faculty, and leading extracurricular activities is an integral part of the job. An ideal candidate will work enthusiastically with a team of 45 music instructors and support staff for the musical development of our students and to enrich the cultural and community life of the academy.
