The Jewish Community High School of the Bay needs a part-time Library Assistant to support our community's library use and resources. Our robust collection includes 35,000 print volumes, ebooks and subscription databases housed in a beautiful library space. The ideal candidate has a fondness for libraries and working with teens. Qualified candidates must be eligible to work in the U.S. Fifteen hours per week with flexible weekly schedule.
The JCHS Library Assistant will know or be willing to learn how to do the following:
Catalog and process all new acquisitions, including ebooks MARC records
Circulate all materials, including reshelving
Become familiar with print collection and online research tools in support of curriculum
Answer routine reference questions
Assist students on how to use the Library and the online book catalog and directs them to the correct book location(s)
Assist the Librarian in communicating Library policies and other important information to the JCHS community
Provide assistance to students and professional community with copiers and printers
Create rotating library displays/exhibits
Monitor library gifts and maintain Excel spreadsheet of gifts and dedications, prepares gift plates
Maintain Library blog of student and professional community book reviews
Maintain Goodreads site with student and professional community book reviews
Design creative and eye-catching exhibits to encourage more frequent use of the library.
Generate weekly Pushpages to advise school community of new material in the library.
Monitor reserve textbook lending
Perform occasional repairs of worn or damaged books
Order processing supplies and performs other clerical duties
Supervise the Library in the absence of the Librarian
Comfortable with computers, Internet, willingness to continually learn new technology
Comfortable with Google Suite, Word, Excel
Ability to work independently and collaboratively
Strong project management skills and attention to detail
Cataloging and general library experience preferred
