THE ROLE The Lower and Middle School Math Specialist will work with teachers to implement quality mathematics instruction and support the professional growth of teachers around the teaching of mathematics. The Math Specialist will also support students, actively working to meet the needs of all children in math.
QUALIFICATIONS • Bachelor's degree; Master's degree in Mathematics Education desirable • Five or more years experience as a math teacher of young children • Excellent knowledge of mathematics and a deep understanding of TERC Investigations • Demonstrated leadership in professional development • Strong organizational and coordination skills • Experience with working with faculty, students and parents • Effective organization and project management skills, combined with flexibility and attention to detail • Self-motivated, high energy, and ability to work independently and collaboratively
FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Collaborate with individual teachers through co-planning, co-teaching, and coaching • Assist the Math/Science Coordinator in interpreting data to improve learning • Collaborate with administrators to provide leadership and staff development for the math program • Assist teachers in supporting targeted small group mathematics instruction when necessary • Communicate with classroom teachers, support staff and parents regarding specific mathematics support strategies • Provide feedback to teachers regarding their approach and instruction in mathematics • Support instructional staff with obtaining appropriate math resources • Provide professional development for staff on mathematics best practices • Communicate with parents, including presenting at parent math nights • Guide the curriculum mapping/curriculum development process • Research, teach, model, and facilitate teachers’ use of best practices to address the needs of diverse learners. ________________________________________ Bank Street College of Education is an Equal Opportunity Employer and does not discriminate on the basis of age, color, national origin, ethnic origin, citizenship status, disability, race, religion, creed, gender, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity and/or expression, marital status, veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state or local law in its employment policies and other college administered programs.
