5th/6th Grade Middle School Science Teacher (1.0 FTE August 2019 to June 2020)

Westside School serves 330 students in preschool through eighth grade. For 37 years, the school has emphasized educating the whole child, learning by doing, and the cultivation of creativity across disciplines. Westside is currently in search of an individual to join our Middle School team as a 5th & 6th Grade Science Teacher.

Reports to: Middle School Head
Key responsibilities of this role will include:
Teaching two sections each of fifth and sixth grade science
Differentiating instruction to serve both high achievers and those needing extra support
Teaching one elective “Flex” class (Friday afternoons)
Serving as an advisor to a small group of fifth and sixth grade students
Participating in a week-long outdoor trip
Attending faculty and community meetings
Successful candidates will have the following personal and professional attributes:
Science teaching experience in middle school grades
A bachelor’s degree (or higher) in science, science education, or related field
Experience in a variety of instructional techniques and approaches
Compassion for the social and emotional needs of adolescents
Enthusiasm for working collaboratively with colleagues including the desire to plan integrative curriculum experiences across disciplines
Experience and interest around incorporating technology in the science classroom
Start Date: Approximately August 19, 2019
