Covenant Preparatory School is seeking a full-time Principal to facilitate the educational programs for a non-profit, urban, boys’ middle school. The mission of Covenant Preparatory School is to provide young men from underserved communities the foundation required to successfully pursue higher education, to develop the strength of their character and to inspire them to live with integrity as leaders committed to their communities.
The Principal is a member of the school’s administrative team overseeing the school’s educational offerings and handling the daily functions of the school. As part of the job description, the Principal is in charge of setting and maintaining the academic standard of the school and implementing policies and procedures to carry out established goals. Supervision is also a vital aspect of the Principal’s role, as it includes the management of the teaching faculty and the Dean of Students. The Principal is responsible for the development of the institution and tracking student improvements. The Principal is responsible for working with faculty and designing new programs and restructuring established programs to fit the needs of the students. Budgetary issues, student recruitment, parental advisement, and hiring all fall under the responsibilities of the Principal.
Ensuring that the academic environment of a school is positive, inviting and conducive to faculty instruction and student learning is also listed under the Principal’s title. In order to meet such demands, the Principal regularly visits classrooms, surveys existing teaching methods, researches new instructional techniques, conferences with faculty and staff and reviews class materials.
Articulates the mission and goals of the school to staff, students, parents, volunteers, Board members, funding sources and the community.
Manages the organization to assure that the school’s mission and goals are incorporated into all aspects of the curricular and extracurricular life of the school.
Working closely with the Head of School, attracts, trains, mentors, supports and evaluates teaching staff.
Guides development and execution of curriculum.
Serves as a role model for students, reflecting the values, ethics and commitment to excellence embedded in the culture of the school.
Maintains communication protocols with school constituents to assure appropriate and timely information flow.
Passion for the school mission with the ability to lead and manage school constituencies in pursuit of its goals.
A Master’s degree in education preferred; significant classroom teaching experience in an inner-city environment.
Experience in curriculum development and execution.
Public speaking and networking skills.
