Chadwick’s Global Programs fulfill the school’s mission by providing students the opportunity to further develop the knowledge, skills, and dispositions of global citizens through the experience of overnight travel. Excursions may not all be international but are all “global” in that they challenge students to deeply understand their own perspective and its roots, to be curious about the perspectives of others, to develop empathy, and to ultimately understand the world as a complex system whose future is best crafted through collaboration and innovation.
The Director of Global Programs is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the development of a K-12 global curriculum, most notably global travel opportunities in Grades 7-12 and the associated program development, leader support and training, research, materials, risk management, and communication between students, parents, faculty and administration. Programs include faculty developed programming, students exchanges and travel to Chadwick International, Round Square exchanges, service projects, conferences, and yearly meetings, and semester and year long student programs. The Director of Global Programs works closely with the Director of Transportation and Risk Management to assess and manage all risks associated with overnight travel in Grades 7-12, to ensure all paperwork and documentation is completed, and to act as the primary on-call administrator during this overnight travel.
In addition, the Director of Global Programs supports the initiatives of the Center for Ethical, Global Leadership, specifically as the adult mentor to the Round Square Student Board, active participant in networks associated with competency-based education and experiential pedagogies, and active collaborator with the Directors of Community Service and Outdoor Education. The Director is also expected to maintain expertise in the field of global education and to maintain an understanding of best practices in curriculum development, risk management, and international partnerships. The Director of Global Programs is also responsible for the regular vetting of partnerships and the approval of new partnerships associated with the aims of Chadwick’s Global Programs.
As the Round Square Representative, The Director of Global Programs must be able to participate actively in physical activities associated with the Round Square IDEALS, which historically include hikes, light athletic competitions, and service work.
The Director of Global Programs must also be able to work evenings and weekends, most specifically in support of exchange students and host families, to chaperone various events and overnights associated with the programs and Round Square, and to act as the on-call member of staff.
Bachelor's degree, ideally in a field associated with curriculum/program development, international scholarship, and/or student leadership
Five+ years of experience organizing, implementing and overseeing student-centred travel programs, exchanges, and semester programs. This work must include acting as the primary risk manager of significant overnight travel experiences.
Extensive experience leading student overnight travel
Working knowledge of a modern world language such as Spanish, French, German or Chinese
Willingness to and excited by travel with students
Familiarity and facility with experiential education pedagogy and best practices in global education
Strong oral and written communication skills
Strong ability to work independently and collaboratively
Commitment to living by and modeling Chadwick's core values
Master's degree in relevant area such as curriculum/program development, international scholarship, student leadership, global studies, political science, international relations, a major world language, or intercultural communication
Intermediate to advanced level in a modern world language
Experience working with international students
Extended periods of living or travel abroad
Familiarity with Round Square
