Position: Music Specialist
Department: Teaching Faculty
Reports to: Head of School and Assistant Head of School
Job Classification: Full time, 10 month exempt position
The Music Specialist oversees and manages a robust music program. The position balances an intellectually and creative program that is developmentally appropriate. Through differentiated instruction and a love of working closely with children the music teacher will provide a rich and diverse music experience for students.
Teach Music to grades 1-8 using methods appropriate for all ages
Collaborate with classroom, resource/specialist teachers and content specialists to leverage and integrate music studio resources
Collaborate with teachers for authentic music work and music appreciation activities that support classroom content and the curriculum
Promote and manage the End of the Year Performance
Help provide authentic, differentiated learning experiences that build essential music skills for each student
Build students’ confidence and self-esteem as you come to know them as learners and individuals
Supervise students in various capacities
Maintain an attractive, clean, organized studio as well as school display areas and bulletin board
Maintain an informative and updated webpage
Work with families and communicate in a clear and supportive manner
Coordinate the after school Music program
Promote music as an important resource for the HRS community with activities including but not limited to Arts Fest and End of Year Performance
Attend in-service days and meetings
Support the school and its leadership
Bachelor’s degree with Washington State certification, preferred
Commitment to the mission and philosophy of the school
Experience in an elementary/middle school setting
Deep love and knowledge of varied music
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong organizational, management, and goal-setting skills
Experience in curriculum development, collaborative planning and team teaching
Excellent interpersonal skills with colleagues, families and students
Desire and ability to work with children with learning differences
Practice and model respect for individual differences, learning styles and rates of learning
Provides the unique support, attitude, and environment necessary for student success
Builds students’ confidence and self-esteem as learners and individuals
Maintains a positive attitude and connects well with students and families in the midst of challenges and learning obstacles
Commits to innovation, excellence, and dedication in implementing instructional programs and learning activities unique to each student
Believes in each student’s ability and potential to learn and succeed
Maintains a high level of professionalism and confidentiality

Founded in 1983, Hamlin Robinson School is an independent, non-profit school offering a comprehensive educational program to serve students in grades 1-8 with dyslexia and other language related difficulties. The core philosophy of Hamlin Robinson is that all children can reach their full potential given appropriate teaching methods and atmosphere. The school is embarking on an ambitious strategic plan that includes moving to a new location in central Seattle, increasing enrollment, and expanding the academic program.
