Harvard-Westlake, a coed, independent school in Los Angeles serving nearly 1600 students in grades 7-12, seeks to hire an exceptional and highly qualified educator for a full-time French teaching position in the World Languages Department at the Upper School (grades 10-12).
The successful candidate will have the demonstrated ability to deliver rich and effective lessons to teach the French language and the French-speaking cultures to a diverse group of students. The ideal candidate will have experience initiating, facilitating, and moderating classroom discussions in the target language to enhance students' social and academic language skill. Familiarity with how to implement the World Readiness Standards is expected. Experience participating in team planning and demonstrated success developing lessons within a team model is essential. The World Languages Department seeks those committed to team teaching, innovation, and collegiality.

Summary of duties:
Teach multiple levels of French Language and Culture courses. We traditionally offer courses in the Upper School ranging from French II - post-AP coursework;
Prepare, coordinate and plan the curriculum with other members of the department and with the Middle School World Languages Department, as appropriate;
Monitor and evaluate students’ progress, prepare for parent meetings, complete progress reports, etc.;
Participate in regular, purposeful pedagogy meetings and professional development based on the World Readiness Standards for Learning Languages;
Participate actively in the life of the School through attendance at events, committee memberships and leadership of extracurricular activities.
Summary of desired qualifications:
A Bachelor’s Degree in French or in the teaching of French, with native or near-native proficiency (Master’s Degree preferred);
Substantive experience teaching French in a similar school setting;
Significant recent professional development;
Strong oral and written communication skills and a desire to work in a team-focused environment;
Willingness to contribute to school life and activities in additional ways beyond the classroom.
