Punahou is actively recruiting an Assistant Costume Designer & Co-Curricular Faculty who will support the show director’s artistic vision, in support of the Aims of a Punahou Education, providing visual support of the story, concept, and context of productions and helps actors and dancers to portray their characters, meet the needs of the performers, and tell the story. Designs, plans, constructs, acquires, drafts patterns, alters, maintains, and coordinates wardrobe needs for theatrical productions and dramatic arts instruction at the School. Serves in a lead capacity for assigned productions as determined by Costume Shop Supervisor / Lead Costumer. As a Co-Curricular Faculty member, the Assistant Costume Designer will collaborate with others to develop, implement, and teach best-practice curriculum based on the duel-environment of design and construction from conceptualization to production.
Position Details: Department: Theatre Status: Full Time Regular FLSA Status: Exempt Work Year: 9 Month, 2019 - 2020 School Year Work Hours: Monday – Friday, 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM, with frequent morning, evening and weekend hours to accommodate production needs.
Bachelor's degree in Theatre Arts and at least two (2) years of experience in costume design or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Two (2) years professional costume design/coordination in educational, community and/or professional theatre, including a demonstrated knowledge of patterning, drafting, draping, construction, fitting, fabric modification and fitting required.
Experience in a supervisory role and working with student crews and volunteers.
Background in school-based production.
Experience in teaching for theatre production, costume development or technical theatre crew.
Experience with MS office Suite and Google Applications.
Ability to interact professionally with students, faculty and/or staff in a team environment.
