Position Details: Department: Upper Elementary, Grade 5 Status: Full Time Regular FLSA Status: Exempt Work Year: 9 months, 2019-2020 School Year Work Hours: Monday – Friday, 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM
Bachelor’s degree in Education or in the academic area for which applying, Master’s degree preferred
Three years of experience teaching at the Upper Elementary level or a combination of education and experience
Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds; an understanding of the developmental needs of elementary age students, sensitivity to each individual student’s needs; and ability to appreciate the variety of perspectives offered by individual viewpoints, disciplines and cultural understandings
Strong knowledge of content area curriculum and instructional methodologies in mathematics and science and the proven ability to work collaboratively within a grade level and team to modify and develop materials and assessments within an articulated curricular framework that is embedded in the school's mission, vision, and aims
The ability to work collaboratively and collegially with students, faculty, parents, and other members of the Punahou community
The ability to think critically, make sound decisions, and effectively problem solve
Knowledge about current research on teaching and learning for this age group and skilled in applying its findings to a variety of situations – particularly the research that supports the students to access, evaluate, and use information from multiple sources in order to learn, to think, and to create and apply new knowledge
Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills with the ability to respond effectively; ability to communicate effectively in large and small group settings
Knowledge of basic software applications and the ability to integrate technology effectively in teaching and learning in an Apple classroom environment, with the google suite of applications and the use of SeeSaw to support e-Portfolios.
Excellent organizational skills; the ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and deadlines during a consistently fast paced, time-sensitive school year
